WALKING THROUGH RAMADAN AND LENT AND CONTEMPLATING PASSOVER

March 2025 is a very special month in the Abrahamic Faiths.

On March 1, our Muslim brothers and sisters started the holy month of Ramadan,

a spiritual feast of fasting, prayers, almsgiving, and meditation to get closer to God. On March 5, our Christian brothers and sisters walked into Lent,40 days of a very spiritual time of sacrifice, meditation, and prayers to get closer to God as well.

In their own way, they are both walking toward closer ties to the Almighty, our Maker.

It reminds us to focus on our faiths and stay steadfast.

After Eid, the celebration of the end of Ramadan, it will still be Lent for our Christian brothers and sisters. During the Holy Week in April, our Jewish brothers and sisters will celebrate Passover, commemorating the Israelites’ liberation from slavery in ancient Egypt.

All those essential moments intertwining remind us we are all brothers and sisters in the Abrahamic faiths. It’s a wake-up call.

In Genesis15:5:

God took Abram outside and said,

‘look at the sky. There are so many stars you cannot count them. Your descendants also will be too many to count.”

You are, they are, and we all are in the Abrahamic faiths, part of Abraham’s vast lineage.

Unfortunately, despite our lack of control over them, the dire circumstances in the Holy Land cause each group, out of fear, to isolate itself more and more and push them to forget about this beautiful lineage. Antisemitism and Islamophobia should have no space for believers in the Abrahamic faiths.

We ought to reach out to each other and build bridges.

His Excellency Dr. Ghoulem Berrah Foundation cultivates respect and fraternal harmony among people of the Abrahamic faiths and people of all faiths or no faith as human brothers and sisters. We strive for peace.
